About the Tyger River Foundation

The Tyger River Foundation is a Spartanburg-based non-profit dedicated to long-term conservation efforts within the Tyger River Basin and improving quality of life in the Upstate.

Our mission is to promote, protect and restore the natural and historic resources of the Tyger River Basin and encourage an active outdoor lifestyle.

The Foundation was formed to address a void in our operating area of a local, unified organization with our mission. A group of concerned citizens took on the challenge and established the Tyger River Foundation in 2007.

The Foundation brings a focused long-term vision and sustainable plan to protect, promote and restore the Tyger River Basin for public use and enjoyment. The Foundation’s efforts will protect and conserve land within the Tyger River Basin, increase opportunities for healthy, active living and boost Spartanburg’s economic engine through tourism.

Over the past five years, the Foundation has acquired and begun restoration on Anderson Mill, a 200-year old grist mill registered as the oldest standing mill in South Carolina and the birthplace of Spartanburg County government; organized a number of river sweeps and clean-up projects within the Basin; and opened the County’s first public park and river access point on the Tyger River, the Tyger-10 Nature Park.

We are participating in several local projects and will eventually expand throughout our operating area. If you share our mission, we welcome your support and participation!
